Professor Louise Ackers

Chairperson

Louise holds a chair in Global Social Justice at the University of Salford. She has worked for many years on the mobilities of the highly skilled with a focus on equality aspects and knowledge mobilisation. Her current work focuses on improving health systems change in the Ugandan public sector, through the sharing of knowledge and skills. Over the past 10 years, this has focused primarily on maternal and newborn health and working with our partners in Uganda to improve referral pathways and intervene early to prevent obstetric emergencies.
Her current projects in Uganda include work to promote cervical cancer screen-and-treat services; work to reduce the incidence and impact of maternal sepsis and slow the effects of anti-microbial resistance and work on limb loss and capacity-building in the provision of body-powered prosthetics.
