Volunteer Roles

In line with our sustainability strategy, the main role of all K4C professional volunteers is to work alongside local staff to exchange knowledge and skills. Our volunteers are supernumerary and are not expected to substitute for local workers (except in exceptional circumstances). Volunteers support our on-going projects and are also given autonomy to pursue their own personal projects and interests, providing they lie within the scope of the work of K4C and our long-term strategy.

To maximise continuity and sustainability, many projects are passed from one volunteer to the next. A bespoke role description is negotiated with each volunteer in advance of their placement, which may include time allocated for research or supervising small groups of local or international students completing their elective placements through K4C.
